Meals on Wheels NM

Meals on Wheels Albuquerque provides services to any one of any age. There are no restrictions for age or disability. Their goal is to help you or your loved one stay happy, healthy and independent.

Please note: Meals on Wheels Albuquerque does not have the LIFE program anymore. They offer sliding scale fees for meals. The scale depends solely on monthly income.

Qualifications

Meals on Wheels has no age, health or income requirements, but they do ask that you receive at least two meals per week to maintain service. You must reside in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho or Corrales to receive hot meal delivery. Clients who live outside this area can receive frozen meal deliveries through the mail (shipping and handling costs will be applied for mailed meals).

Diet Types

Meals on Wheels Albuquerque offers eight diet types:

  • Regular
  • Heart Healthy
  • Diabetic
  • Renal/Dialysis
  • Vegetarian
  • Pre-Cut
  • Mechanical Soft
  • Pureed.

Cost

Meals on Wheels works on a sliding scale fee based on gross monthly income and meal type (hot or frozen). They also offer chilled breakfast and dinner for a $3.60 per meal flat rate. Service begins with a non-refundable administration fee of $25, payable by debit card, credit card, electronic bank draft, or check. After initial payment, clients are placed on autopay and invoiced at the end of each month. Financial assistance may be available if meal costs presents a hardship and is dependent on grant availability.

There are 6 different tiers for meal payments:

  • 4 are subsidized by grants & donations
  • 2 are full price tiers 

Applicants will need to give their monthly income in order to be placed on the correct tier. It is not necessary to be on any other type of assistance or benefits program to qualify.

Sign Up / Application

 You, a family member or a professional caregiver may apply online (click here to apply online); by telephone by calling 505-823-8060, Monday – Friday between 9:00am – 2:00pm; or email clients@mow-nm.org. The application process takes approximately 15 minutes and requests information such as name, address, phone number, health status, etc. All application information is kept confidential.

Once you have completed the sign up form client services should give you a call within 24-48 hrs after you apply to discuss meal pricing. The admin fee is billed after you have signed up for services at the end of the month and after you have begun to receive meals. They also offer a sliding scale for the admin fee which maxes out at $25. It is a one time fee. If you cancel or suspend services and come back at a later date, you won’t have to pay that fee again. 

Fine Print

There is no contract for services, meals can be canceled at any time or put on hold.
