Maintaining social distancing outside of our houses is our new normal. That being said, it can be difficult to implement out in the practical world, especially for some individuals with disabilities. The need for social distancing during COVID-19 has highlighted the need for assistive technology for individuals who are blind or have low vision to help them maintain social distance while out in the world.
- Many apps are available to people maintain social distance, or are in the works:
- Most apps are for mobile phones, but one company offers wearables
- Some apps allow the user to set the distance for audible alerts
- NOTE: some apps to not measure distance to everyone, but only to another person with the same app.
